Mark & Lexi were the most iconic, destined couple on Grey’s Anatomy show. They always somehow found their way back to one another despite all odds. Individually Mark Sloan, aka Mc Steamy, was a plastics attending at Seattle Grace Hospital whereas Lexi, aka Little Grey, was Meredith’s younger paternal half-sister & was a surgical resident at the same.
This couple was known to have slightly on and off relationship and issues with expressing feelings for each other as Mark was warned by Derek not to fall in love with ‘little grey’ until she showed up at his place! Though in later seasons their love remains true followed by both of them working hard to achieve their goals of become better surgeons. Though it was heart-breaking for the audience when they witnessed the demise of Lexi and Mark at the end of season 8, both succumbing to their injuries from a horrifying plane crash.
But what if situation had turned out differently?
What if both Mark and Lexi were able to survive the crash? What if there hadn’t even been a plane crash?
In season 5, Mark started thinking about what he wanted out of his future, and he wanted to include Lexi whereas she had a different 10-year-plan, and wasn't ready to move in and start a life with her older boyfriend. He commented about other residents being married, and she squirms at the thought of them getting married so soon.
I do believe this plane crash would have made them realised that all people have is NOW! Your past is no more and you can’t predict your future! After healing from the crash injuries, the first step for Lexi and Mark would had to have been deciding to stay together and getting married because you never know what may happen the next minute. Your present is all you have and you need to make the most of it.
Along with all the fun, entertainment and basic medical knowledge, Grey’s Anatomy also taught us various life lessons to look forward to & one of them is what we learn from Mark & Lexi’s death which is to start appreciating people in your life and start expressing more and letting people know what you feel. There is never a so called “RIGHT TIME” for events to take place. Your life is more of ride or die situation where you have to dive in courageously.
You never know what will happen next but at least don’t you think it’s always better to face the outcome instead of regretting not giving it a try in the first place?
I guess your heart knows all the answers now! That doesn’t mean you will start ignoring what the logic says. Try seeking balance between the two to get the most out of your life. One of the fine learning says “I’m now learning how to consciously live in the present and, when necessary, to apply the knowledge from the past that I need now, in order to take action. This means that I also have space to plan for the future.” The key aspect is the gather the experience and apply it to your working life rather it be professional or personal.
Some people had a different view about how things would have been between Mark and Lexi. They say that Mark would not have been able to resist cheating and Lexie would be continually frustrated and unsatisfied in their relationship, while not being able to focus on her work and eventually turning down the medical program.
