A fan favorite medical drama centering Meredith Grey, an aspiring surgeon and daughter of one of the foremost surgeons in the world, Dr. Ellis Grey. Throughout the series, Meredith goes through professional and personal challenges along with her fellow surgeons at Seattle Grace Hospital. The doctors of Seattle Grace deal with life-or-death scenarios on a daily basis; it is in each other that they find comfort, friendship and even a little romance. Together, they discover that neither medicine nor relationships are objective. Real life only comes in shades of grey.

Protagonists: Seattle Grace’s Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo): Meredith likes: voice-overs that explain the theme of each episode, surgery, dancing things out. Meredith dislikes: being compared to her mother, having to keep her mother’s advanced early-onset Alzheimer’s a secret, her mother essentially and finding out that her one night stand with the good hair is also her boss (and married.)

When Meredith found her mom’s diary, she poured over it for a long time savoring its every detail and learning lessons from her mother’s experiences. A sweet, unexpected way to end the series would be to frame it all as the result of an older Zola reading her own mother’s diaries.

Such an ending might be a touch reminiscent of How I Met Your Mother, but with a completely different style and tone that would work much better for this series which probably needs to end on a warm emotional note to please its audience following something along the lines of -

When Meredith gets older and becomes the Chief of Surgery at Seattle Grace (now turned Grey Sloan Memorial), she will give Zola her diary with all her stories and experiences. Zola would join the hospital’s intern class. Meredith would deliver the speech that Richard used to deliver to the fresher interns, as she proudly looks at Zola, who would follow her father, Derek’s path, into neurosurgery, wearing a ferry boat scrub cap, perhaps with Bokhee’s daughter assisting as the surgical nurse. It would then end with Zola peering into an open skull and saying, “It's a beautiful day to save lives.”

It would be a sweet way to wrap up the series and open the door for a new Grey’s Anatomy show to premiere sometime in the future.

Family is a major theme of Grey’s Anatomy and ending on a moment of mother-daughter love would tug at our heartstrings. It would also be cool to see the characters several years in the future.
